Your adventure kicks off at 8:30 AM as we depart from Fes toward the imperial city of Meknes, a historic capital encircled by monumental walls. Our first stop will transport you back in time as we explore the sprawling ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. In Meknes, you’ll stand in awe before the magnificent Bab Mansour gate before savoring a delicious lunch at a traditional restaurant. In the afternoon, our journey continues to Rabat, Morocco’s modern capital, where you’ll settle into your accommodation for the night.
After breakfast, we’ll delve into the highlights of Rabat, starting with the charming, blue-and-white walled Kasbah of the Oudayas. Next, we travel to Casablanca to witness the breathtaking architectural masterpiece of the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most beautiful in the world. From there, we’ll continue our journey to the vibrant “Red City” of Marrakech, where we will check into our accommodation and you’ll have the evening to begin soaking in its unique energy.
Today is dedicated to uncovering the magic of Marrakech with an expert local guide. We’ll dive into the sensory whirlwind of Djemaa El-Fna Square, a lively stage for street performers, food vendors, and storytellers. Your tour will include visits to the serene Majorelle Gardens, the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, the lavish Bahia Palace, the historic Ben Youssef Madrasa, and the ancient Saadian Tombs. After a captivating day of discovery, you’ll return to your riad in Marrakech to relax and reflect.
We set out from Marrakech around 8:30 AM, heading south toward Ouarzazate, the famed “Gateway to the Sahara.” Our route takes us over the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi-n-Tichka pass. Along the way, we’ll explore the crumbling grandeur of the Telouet Kasbah. We’ll then enjoy lunch with a view of the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage site, before exploring its ancient corridors. Our day concludes in Ouarzazate, where we’ll spend the night.
Our adventure continues this morning with an exploration of the impressive Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate. We then journey towards the dramatic Dades Gorges, passing through the fragrant Rose Valley near M’Gouna, renowned for its cosmetic products. After a lunch stop and a visit to unique local caves, we’ll arrive at the stunning canyons of the Dades Gorges, where you’ll settle in for the night amidst the incredible rock formations.
Today, we journey from the canyons to the desert. Our first stop is the towering Todra Gorges, where sheer cliff walls rise dramatically on either side of a narrow riverbed. We’ll then travel through desert towns like Tinjdad and stop for lunch before passing the oasis of Rissani. Upon arriving at the edge of the Sahara, you’ll be welcomed with traditional mint tea at your desert camp. Then, embark on an iconic camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to witness a truly magical sunset. Your day ends with a delicious dinner and an unforgettable night under the desert stars.
After a desert breakfast and a refreshing shower at the camp, our journey turns northward towards Midelt. We’ll pass through Erfoud, a town famous for its rich fossil deposits, before traversing the impressive Ziz Valley, a breathtaking ribbon of green palm groves cutting through the arid landscape. We’ll continue our scenic drive to Midelt, known as Morocco’s “apple capital,” nestled at the foot of Mount Ayachi, where we will rest for the night.
On our final day, we’ll cross the remarkable Tizi n Talghmt (camel pass) on our way to the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our next stop is Azrou, where we’ll wander through a cedar forest and meet the playful Barbary macaque monkeys that call it home. After lunch, we’ll continue our journey back to Fez, passing through the charming, alpine-style town of Ifrane. In the afternoon, our incredible 8-day journey through imperial cities and the Sahara concludes as we drop you off at your accommodation or the airport in Fes.
